What is Transfer Credit

Transfer credit is college-level academic credit earned before enrolling at Hudson Valley Community College. It may come from courses completed at another college or university or from other eligible learning experiences.

Hudson Valley evaluates previous coursework and other eligible learning to determine whether credit can be awarded and how it may apply toward your degree or certificate program. Receiving transfer credit may help you avoid repeating coursework you have already successfully completed.
NOTE: Transfer credit is only awarded to those who are registered in a degree or certificate program.

General Transfer Credit Requirements

Coursework from another college or university may be eligible for transfer credit when:

• You successfully completed the course.
• You earned a grade of C or better, equivalent to 2.0 on a 4.0 scale or at least 70%.
• The previous coursework meets Hudson Valley's requirements for transferability.
• The credit can appropriately be applied toward your program of study.

When evaluating coursework, Hudson Valley may consider factors including course content, learning outcomes and instructional time, as well as applicable laboratory, clinical or observation hours. A course syllabus or detailed course/topic outline may be requested.

Courses without a direct Hudson Valley equivalent may still be eligible for elective credit or may apply toward program requirements in accordance with college policy.
