Dental Assisting Competencies

Graduates of the Dental Assisting Certificate program will:

  • Gain knowledge in oral and written communications and dental assisting sciences to be successful in the field.
  • Develop a sense of professionalism and function as an integral part of the health care team and member of a licensed health profession.
  • Develop a sense of personal responsibility, self-reliance and discipline for the benefit of self and public health welfare.
  • Develop independent thinking and the ability to document, analyze, problem solve and reach sound rational conclusions.
  • Develop culturally appropriate interventions when working with diverse patients and coworkers. Integrate cultural competency into patient centered care.
  • Foster a life-long interest in learning.
