Panelists seated speaking to an audience during a workforce development roundtable discussion

Hudson Valley Community College presented findings from a new workforce development research study on Friday, Oct. 16, at HVCC North in Malta. The event brought together industry representatives and community partners to discuss the evolving employment landscape across the Capital Region.

The research study examines regional workforce needs and opportunities to better connect education and training with today’s employers. Hudson Valley’s provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, Dr. Donna Adair, presented the findings. President Michael Brophy then led a panel discussion on emerging trends, talent needs and opportunities to strengthen the region’s workforce pipeline.

Participants in the panel included NYS Assemblymember Hon. Carrie Woerner, 113 AD, Ballston Spa Central School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gianleo Duca, National Grid Director of Workforce Development Amber Rangel, GlobalFoundries Senior Director of Human Resources Admar Semedo, Capital Region Workforce Development Board Executive Director Brian Williams, and Regeneron Senior Manager of University Relations Dmitry Zhmurkin.

More than 250 businesses and community leaders attended the event, which was part of a weeklong series of events celebrating the inauguration of Dr. Brophy as Hudson Valley Community College's eighth president.

“Understanding the needs of our regional employers is essential to ensuring our students have the skills and knowledge to succeed in today’s workforce,” said President Brophy. “This research gives us an opportunity to strengthen partnerships across the Capital Region, align education and training with industry needs, and create pathways that benefit both our students and the regional economy.
