Hudson Valley Community College Enrollment Tops 11,000, Marks Fifth Straight Year of Growth

November 2, 2026

Enrollment climbs 25.6 percent since 2021, significantly outpacing state and national trends

Hudson Valley Community College has surpassed 11,000 students for the first time in years, reaching 11,068 enrolled students this fall and extending a growth trajectory that has made it the largest community college in Upstate New York. The milestone marks the college's fifth consecutive year of enrollment gains and reflects growing demand for its transfer pathways, workforce-focused programs and flexible learning opportunities.

Since fall 2021, enrollment has increased by 2,256 students, or 25.6 percent, underscoring the college's expanding role as an accessible gateway to higher education and career advancement throughout the Capital Region and beyond.

Hudson Valley's momentum continues to outpace both state and national enrollment trends. While initial reports show community college enrollment nationwide grew just 1.2 percent over the past year, Hudson Valley recorded a 5.5 percent increase. The college also exceeded recent enrollment gains across the State University of New York system, where enrollment grew 2.7 percent overall and 4.5 percent among community colleges last year.

Hudson Valley's sustained enrollment growth reflects a strategic focus on expanding access, strengthening transfer opportunities and delivering workforce-ready programs aligned with the region's economic needs. From healthcare and advanced manufacturing to business, STEM and skilled trades, the college continues to provide students with affordable pathways to in-demand careers and advanced degree completion while helping develop the skilled workforce the region needs to grow and thrive.

"More students are choosing Hudson Valley because they recognize the life-changing value of an education that delivers both opportunity and outcomes," said Hudson Valley Community College President Michael Brophy. "Whether their goal is to transfer to a four-year institution, launch a new career or gain skills for today's workforce, students know they can find a clear path to success here. This continued growth affirms our mission and our responsibility to serve as an engine of educational and economic opportunity for our region."

This fall, Hudson Valley expanded its academic portfolio to 100 degree and certificate programs, offering students more pathways than ever before to pursue high-demand careers or continue their education. Combined with seven locations across the Capital Region and a commitment to affordability, accessibility and student success, the college remains a leading choice for learners seeking a high-quality education close to home as well as those pursuing online learning opportunities.
