Jennifer and Kevin McCoy Bring Film Exhibition to College's Teaching Gallery

Internationally recognized Brooklyn-based new media artists Jennifer and Kevin McCoy will bring three film installations to Hudson Valley Community College’s Teaching Gallery beginning Thursday, Sept. 24. The exhibition “The Films of Jennifer and Kevin McCoy” will remain on view through Saturday, Oct. 24.

As part of the Sept. 24 opening, the McCoys will discuss their work from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center Auditorium, followed by a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Teaching Gallery. The artist talk, reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.

Presented together for the first time, the three works in the exhibition — “Broker,” “Cleaner” and “Quitter” — complete a thematic arc that began in 2016 with “Broker.”

The exhibition also marks the first installation of “Quitter,” a 2025 experimental video featuring artist Eve Sussman and music by Lori Scacco. The work explores the challenges of breaking with the patterns of modern life and asks: What does life look like without lifestyle?

The artists are known for their pioneering work in film, video and digital media. Both earned Master of Fine Arts degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and have received numerous honors, including a Rhizome Lifetime Achievement Award and Guggenheim Fellowship recognition. Jennifer McCoy is a professor at Brooklyn College, while Kevin McCoy is a professor of Art, Art Education and Technology at New York University.

The McCoys’ work has been exhibited at venues throughout the world, including the Museum of Modern Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Pompidou Center in Paris and the British Film Institute in London. Their work is also included in the collections of major museums, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Exhibitions in the Teaching Gallery are installed and assisted by students enrolled in Gallery Management courses. The Teaching Gallery’s hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday; and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. The gallery is located on the ground floor of the Administration Building.
