Hudson Valley Community College Marks Fifth Consecutive Year of Enrollment Growth

September 2, 2026

Hudson Valley Community College welcomed 7,879 students for the start of its fall 2026 semester on Monday, Aug. 31, representing an 11.3 percent increase over the first day of classes in fall 2025.

Transfer student enrollment increased 22.2 percent year over year, while the number of returning students grew 13.5 percent and new student enrollment increased 12.2 percent. Enrollment at HVCC North, which was officially designated as a branch campus in December, also increased 16.8 percent this fall.

The gains mark the fifth consecutive year of enrollment growth at Hudson Valley, which enrolls more than 20,000 students in credit and non-credit courses annually. Final enrollment figures for fall 2026 will be reported following the official census date on Sept. 21.

“Enrollment growth like this is a powerful reflection of the confidence students have in a Hudson Valley education,” said President Michael Brophy. “Year after year, students are choosing Hudson Valley to launch careers, transfer to four-year institutions, gain new skills and create better opportunities for themselves and their families. This growth is a testament to the strength of our programs and support services, the dedication of our faculty and staff, and our commitment to providing an affordable, high-quality education that prepares students for success. We are proud of the momentum we have built and excited to welcome nearly 8,000 students to the college.”

The college has reached another milestone, with 100 degree and certificate programs now available to students. The expanded academic offerings provide students with a wide range of options and flexible in-person, online, day and evening class schedules.

To celebrate the start of the new academic year, Hudson Valley is hosting a series of free Welcome Week activities Sept. 1-3, giving students opportunities to connect with classmates, campus offices and resources while enjoying food, music, giveaways and fun activities.
