Hudson Valley Community College Celebrates Expansion of SUNY’s ASAP Program
July 7, 2026
Additional Investment and Expanded Access Will Help More Than 300 Students Stay on Track and Graduate on Time
Hudson Valley Community College leaders recently announced the expansion of SUNY’s Advancing Success in Associate Pathways (ASAP) program. This expansion will allow more than 300 students at Hudson Valley Community College to receive important resources to help them gain and maintain academic momentum so they can graduate on time—double the number of students the program served when it was first launched at Hudson Valley in Fall 2024.
Since the launch of Hudson Valley’s pilot ASAP cohort in Fall 2024, more than 440 students have participated in the program. Of those students, 44 have already graduated, and another 12 are expected to complete their degree requirements during Summer 2026. During the Spring 2026 semester, ASAP staff conducted more than 1,500 meetings with participating students. ASAP students take an average of 14 credits per semester, have an average cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher, and have demonstrated above-average engagement rates.
SUNY’s Advancing Success in Associate Pathways (ASAP) and Advancing Completion through Engagement (ACE) are the nation’s leading college retention and completion models. A recently announced systemwide expansion will allow the programs to serve 10,000 students at 44 SUNY campuses by the Fall 2026 semester. The expansion was made possible through an additional $8 million allocated in the FY2026-27 Enacted State Budget, bringing the total state investment in the programs to $20 million annually.
ASAP supports students pursuing associate degrees, while ACE serves students seeking bachelor’s degrees. Eligible students have access to a wide array of resources and support to help them overcome barriers that can prevent them from degree completion. These include funding for textbooks, groceries, transportation, and other educational expenses, as well as comprehensive personalized advisement, academic support, and career development activities.
“We are thrilled to announce the continued expansion of SUNY’s ASAP program at Hudson Valley Community College,” said Hudson Valley Community College President Michael Brophy. “Services and resources like the ones provided through ASAP play a critical role in ensuring our students are able to pursue their education and graduate on time, and the program has already seen great success at Hudson Valley. Our sincere appreciation goes to SUNY, Governor Hochul, and state and local leaders for their ongoing support of this important initiative.”
"SUNY is committed to the success of every student, and the continued expansion of ASAP|ACE will help ensure our students can complete their degree on time, achieve their dreams, and move forward on a path to upward mobility," said SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. "I am thrilled that through the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the State Legislature, and the SUNY Board of Trustees, these vital programs will serve 10,000 students across the state this fall and I thank the Hudson Valley Community College administration, faculty, and staff for their unwavering commitment to student success."
In addition to state investments, SUNY has received a $2 million renewal commitment from Brightway, which will extend its program’s support for student-parents who are primary caregivers. The renewal commitment, which builds on an initial matched commitment of $1 million made to SUNY in 2023, will also expand personalized career guidance, strengthen connections to internships and employment opportunities, and pilot a new program supporting ASAP student-parents transferring to SUNY baccalaureate campuses that offer ACE.
Currently, 52 student-parents participate in the ASAP program at Hudson Valley Community College. Through the partnership with Brightway, they have access to resources including the Brightway Scholar Fund, which provides emergency financial assistance, and the Brightway Education Fund, which helps cover childcare expenses and intersession course opportunities to keep students on track toward graduation.
