Leanna Hamel of Clifton Park has been elected the student representative to the Hudson Valley Community College Board of Trustees, where she will provide a student perspective on issues affecting the college and its student body. She begins a one-year term on July 1, 2026.

A graduate of Shenendehowa High School, Hamel is pursuing an Associate in Science degree in Business Administration. An active student leader, she was recently elected Student Senate president and serves as the president of the Black and Latino Student Union. She is also a member of the Entrepreneurship Club and Investment Club and is working to establish a Pre-Law Club for students interested in legal careers.

As student representative, Hamel will act as a liaison between students and the college's governing board, providing insight into the student experience and helping inform decisions that affect the campus community.

"Leanna has demonstrated exceptional leadership, initiative and commitment to student engagement during her time at Hudson Valley," said Hudson Valley Community College President Michael Brophy. "Her involvement across campus and dedication to creating opportunities for fellow students will make her a strong advocate for the student body."

Following graduation, Hamel plans to continue her education in business, marketing or finance before attending law school and pursuing a career in business law.

"I am honored to serve as the student representative and advocate for my fellow students," Hamel said. "Hudson Valley has provided me with incredible opportunities for growth and leadership, and I look forward to helping ensure that students' perspectives are heard and valued."
