Dr. John Eisler Named Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at Hudson Valley Community College

His appointment was approved by the college’s Board of Trustees on Tuesday, June 23, and he will begin his new role on July 1.

As dean, Dr. Eisler will provide leadership and strategic direction for four academic departments: Applied Technologies; Computer Science and Mathematics; Engineering, Architecture and Manufacturing; and Natural and Applied Sciences. Together, these departments offer 45 degree and certificate programs that prepare students for transfer opportunities and high-demand careers.

In this role, Dr. Eisler will support student success, collaborate with faculty and staff, advance academic innovation, strengthen industry and community partnerships and develop new opportunities that align STEM education with workforce needs and emerging fields.

Dr. Eisler brings more than 30 years of experience in higher education as a faculty member and academic leader, with expertise in STEM education, innovation in teaching and learning, curriculum and program development, and student success.

Prior to joining Hudson Valley, Dr. Eisler served as associate vice president of Academic Affairs and acting dean of the School of Business, Science, Technology and Math at Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner, Massachusetts. Previously, Dr. Eisler served as associate vice president for Academic Affairs, dean of Professional and Continuing Studies, and professor of Adult Education at Springfield College in Massachusetts. He also held leadership and faculty positions at SUNY Empire State University and the University of North Florida, where he taught neuroscience, developed innovative science curricula, mentored student research and advanced new approaches to teaching and learning.

Dr. Eisler earned a Ph.D. and master’s degree in Neuroscience and Animal Behavior from Emory University and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Florida. His academic background includes research and teaching that explores the neuroendocrine underpinnings of psychosocial behavior, substance abuse and development.

Dr. Eisler’s appointment is part of a series of key leadership hires made during President Brophy’s first year at Hudson Valley Community College. Together, these appointments reflect the college’s continued focus on strengthening academic excellence and positioning the institution for future growth.
