Enrollment Growth Continues as Hudson Valley Launches New Degree and Certificate Options

September 5, 2025

Hudson Valley Community College opened its Fall 2025 semester on Sept. 2 with a 4% increase in overall enrollment and several new degree and certificate programs available to students.

Enrollment growth is being seen across all categories: new student enrollment is up 7.2%, returning student enrollment is up 4.5%, and non-matriculated (non-degree) enrollment has climbed 8.8%. This marks the fourth consecutive year of significant enrollment gains for the college. Final enrollment figures will be reported following the official “census” date on Sept. 22.

Hudson Valley is also maintaining its commitment to affordability by holding tuition flat for the third year in a row. With tuition among the lowest in the State University of New York (SUNY) system—only three of SUNY’s 30 community colleges charge less—the college continues to provide accessible pathways to higher education for students across the Capital Region and beyond.

This fall, Hudson Valley offers more than 85 degree and certificate programs with the flexibility of online, day and evening classes. Several new options designed to meet student and workforce demand include:

Business Certificate: Provides students with the requisite business, technical and general education skills needed to enter the workforce, transfer into a two-year A.A.S. program at Hudson Valley, or transfer to a four-year institution.

Collision Repair Certificate: Designed for those who have completed an associate degree or higher in an automotive field and are looking to gain specific skills in automotive mechanical repair and enter the collision repair industry.

English A.A.: Provides a combination of general education courses and discipline-specific courses for students interested in exploring literature, creative writing, and/or media studies and journalism.

Health Science A.S.: Allows students to earn a degree and complete the essential prerequisite courses needed to apply to competitive healthcare programs or transfer to a four-year institution. This program provides a strong foundation for those preparing to enter nursing, radiologic technology, dental hygiene or another health-related field.

Healthcare and Medical Science Preparation Certificate: A three-semester certificate that provides students with the skills needed to enter advanced healthcare programs, such as medical school, physician assistant programs, veterinary school, dental school, optometry school, pharmacy, chiropractic or physical therapy.

History and Political Science A.A.: Allows students to explore how societies have evolved, how governments function and how power and policies impact the world today. This degree is ideal for students planning to pursue a baccalaureate degree in history or political science at a SUNY four-year college or university.

Honda Professional Automotive Career Training A.O.S.: Provides students with paid work experience in a Honda/Acura dealership while studying for an associate degree. Students work with certified instructors and master technicians while completing Honda Certification training modules. The program prepares students for employment at Honda/Acura dealerships as certified technicians.

Media Studies A.A.: Explores the dynamic intersection of communications, media, art, visual storytelling and design through communication studies, hands-on media production, writing styles and techniques.

In addition, two existing programs also received updated titles to more accurately represent their academic offerings, including:

CNC Machining Technology A.O.S., formerly known as Advanced Manufacturing Technology A.O.S.

Collision Repair Technology A.O.S., formerly known as Automotive Technical Services-Autobody Repair A.O.S

“Hudson Valley is thrilled to introduce a wealth of new programs and changes as we welcome students back for the fall 2025 semester,” said Hudson Valley Community College President Dr. Michael Brophy. “By expanding the range of our degree and certificate offerings, we remain committed to enhancing academic excellence and providing our students with the foundation and skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.”
