Hudson Valley Community College’s Respiratory Care program recently received the Distinguished RRT Credentialing Award from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (COARC).

The Respiratory Care program has been accredited by COARC for more than four decades. The award, which will be handed out at the American Association for Respiratory Care Summer Forum in Fort Lauderdale on July 20, recognizes the program’s high performance in graduate outcomes, retention and advanced credentialing exam success.

“For our program to receive this honor without selective admissions is a testament to the education our faculty deliver every year,” said Department Chairperson Patricia Hyland. “COARC oversees both associate degree programs like ours as well as bachelor’s degree programs, so we are proving ourselves against four-year programs with our success on the licensing exams.”

According to Hyland, Respiratory Care program graduates have had a 100 percent pass rate on the initial CRT exam for at least a decade and an impressive 98 percent pass rate on the secondary RRT exam for the past four years. She also noted that the program has had a 91 percent on-time graduation rate and a 100 percent job placement rate for graduates over the past four years.
