April 28, 2026
Hudson Valley Community College has announced the appointment of Dr. Donna L. Adair as provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs following a national search. Dr. Adair brings more than three decades of experience in higher education, in both teaching and leadership, to the role. Her appointment was officially approved by the Board of Trustees at its April 28 meeting, and she will begin her tenure on July 1.
In her new role, Dr. Adair will provide leadership for more than 85 degree and certificate programs within the college’s diverse portfolio. This includes overseeing the strategic direction of the schools of Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Serving as the college’s chief academic officer, Dr. Adair will guide long‑term academic strategy, champion student success and equity, and strengthen alignment between academic programs and regional workforce needs. In addition, she will oversee institutional effectiveness and academic support services, including articulation agreements, the Center for Professional Excellence, distance and online learning, high school partnerships, the Honors College, and the college’s learning centers and library. Dr. Adair will also serve as the president’s primary advisor, aligning academic goals with the college’s mission while collaborating with faculty, workforce partners and the broader community to expand educational opportunities.
Dr. Adair joins Hudson Valley following her tenure as the interim provost and senior vice president of Academic Affairs at New Jersey City University (NJCU), where she was recognized as a statewide leader in strategic enrollment management. She previously served as dean at both New Jersey City University and Ashland University, where she managed multi-million-dollar budgets and oversaw accreditation processes for dozens of academic programs.
“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Adair to the leadership team at Hudson Valley Community College,” President Michael Brophy said. “Her extensive experience in teaching, leadership, and academic innovation will be an asset to our entire campus community. Through her leadership, I am confident that our students will be well supported in achieving their goals, and our faculty will be empowered with the resources they need to excel.”
Dr. Adair earned a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Georgia State University and holds both a master's and a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Oglethorpe University.
