College’s Teaching Gallery Unveils Student Exhibits

April 23, 2026

Each spring, the Teaching Gallery at Hudson Valley Community College hosts a series of year-end exhibitions celebrating the creative achievements of students in the Department of Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media. These showcases are free and open to the public, and offer the community a firsthand look at the diverse portfolio of work produced on Hudson Valley’s campus.

From April 23 through May 2, the gallery will feature two concurrent exhibitions: Last One(s) Out, the 2026 Advanced Study in Drawing and Painting Thesis Exhibit, and the 2026 Juried Fine Arts Student Exhibit. The public is invited to an opening reception and program awards ceremony on Thursday, April 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. Following the opening, regular gallery hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Wednesday from noon to 7 p.m.; and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

Last One(s) Out features work by artists enrolled in Advanced Study in Drawing and Painting, two semesters of guided study with Professor Thomas Lail for students who have completed foundational art courses and wish to pursue their own body of work. The 2025-2026 Advanced Study students are Barbara Liz Barros, Ab Borzon, Elana Calvert, Perci Denley, Harlough Dingman, Lee Ligon and Sean Ryan.

The Juried Fine Art Student Exhibit includes selected work by Fine Arts majors from the Summer 2025, Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters, including drawing, painting, two-dimensional design and photography.

Pulse 11, the Digital Media Program exhibition of photography, drawing, graphic design, animation, two-dimensional design, digital imaging, video, web art and interactive media, occupied the Teaching Gallery from March 26 through April 9.

Hudson Valley Community College offers an Associate of Science degree in Fine Arts, and both a certificate and an Associate of Science degree in Digital Media.

The year-end exhibits are planned and installed by students enrolled in Gallery Management courses at Hudson Valley. Fine Arts and Digital Media faculty members include Justin Baker, Kyra Garrigue, Thomas Lail, Jean O’Malley, Jason Van Staveren, and Tara Fracalossi, who is also the gallery’s director. Exhibits are supported by the Department of Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media and the Cultural Affairs Program. Receptions are provided by the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation and the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
