Massachusetts Art Gallery Features Exhibition of Works Curated by Hudson Valley Student
January 9, 2026
Donald Jackson, a Liberal Arts and Sciences A.A. student at Hudson Valley Community College, has curated a photography exhibition at the Eclipse Mill Gallery in North Adams, Massachusetts, on view through Jan. 30.
Titled “Penumbra: Philosophy Through Photography,” the exhibition features work from several artists, including Sara-Anne Blackwell, Lauren Jacobbe, Keith Kurman, Mac MacDaniel, Ashely Morgenthal, Leslie Morgenthal, Gabriel Sacco and Justin Wagg. The exhibition highlights photography as a tool for philosophical inquiry, moving beyond surface appearances to explore complex concepts.
It features the work of another Hudson Valley student, Sara-Anne Blackwell, who is also a Liberal Arts and Sciences A.A. student and a gallery assistant at the college’s Teaching Gallery. The Teaching Gallery, directed by Hudson Valley professor and artist Tara Fracalossi, presents a variety of artists’ work and hosts annual student exhibitions, visiting artist talks and performances throughout the year.
In addition to his contributions at the Eclipse Mill Gallery, Donald works in the education department at the nearby Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, also known as MASS MoCA.
The Eclipse Mill, originally built in the 1800s for textile manufacturing, was renovated in the early 21st century as live/work artist studio condominiums. Its gallery is a 1,078-square-foot artist-run exhibition space located on the first floor. Curated solo and group exhibitions feature work by resident artists, as well as invitational and juried shows by local, regional and national artists.
Hudson Valley’s Liberal Arts and Sciences A.A. degree provides a foundation of core courses allowing students to discover a breadth of knowledge and electives to help decide a particular field of study for transfer. The program parallels the first two years of a baccalaureate level program in liberal arts, so students may transfer to a four-year college or university and pursue a path from a variety of different fields.
