July 22, 2025

Thomas P. Grant has been reappointed by the Rensselaer County Legislature to a second seven-year term on the Hudson Valley Community College Board of Trustees. His new term will run through June 30, 2032.

Originally appointed to the Board in 2018, Grant has been an engaged and committed trustee, serving on several key committees, including Buildings and Grounds; College Foundation and Auxiliary Enterprises; Executive; Honors and Awards; and Negotiating and Sponsor Contribution Advocacy, which he currently chairs. In addition to his Board responsibilities, he has also participated in several major collegewide efforts, such as the Presidential Search Committee and the Strategic Plan Steering Committee.

Grant brings decades of experience in public service and government leadership. He held a variety of senior roles in the New York State Senate, including Director of the Senate Codes and Judiciary Committees, Legislative Director and Nominations Secretary to the Senate Finance Committee, and Executive Assistant to the Chair of the former Division of Parole. He also served as a member of the New York State Board of Parole.

In addition to his state-level service, Grant has been active in local government. He was elected to the Rensselaer County Legislature in 2017 and reelected in 2021, representing District Two, which includes East Greenbush, North Greenbush and Poestenkill. From 2016 to 2018, he served on the East Greenbush Town Board. He is also a certified mediator with Mediation Matters and previously served on its Board of Directors.

Grant holds a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Plattsburgh and a master’s degree from the University at Albany.

“On behalf of the Board, I am honored to recognize the reappointment of Tom Grant,” said Board of Trustees Chair Neil Kelleher. “Tom’s unwavering dedication, thoughtful leadership, and active involvement in college initiatives have had a lasting impact on Hudson Valley. We are fortunate to continue benefiting from his expertise, and I look forward to working with him in the years ahead.”

The Hudson Valley Community College Board of Trustees is composed of ten members: five appointed by the Rensselaer County Legislature, four by the governor, and one elected annually by the student body. Trustees serve seven-year terms, with the exception of the student trustee, who serves a one-year term.
