The Hudson Valley Community College Foundation held its 29th annual Golf Classic, sponsored by U.W. Marx Construction Company, at the Country Club of Troy on Monday, July 17, 2023. The event was sponsored by 58 local businesses and donors, and raised more than $114,000 to benefit the new Honors College at Hudson Valley Community College.

The Honors College’s mission is to attract future scholars and develop leaders engaging in rigorous curriculum with an emphasis on academics, service, leadership, and diversity. Honors College students will demonstrate intellectual curiosity, ambition, integrity and global citizenship.

The initial cohort of 30 students will begin the program in the Fall of 2023. To be eligible, students must be pursuing an A.A. or and A.S. degree for designated programs in STEM, Liberal Arts, Business or Health Sciences with a minimum cumulative high school average of 90 as determined by a high school transcript; intend to transfer to a four-year institution; secure a recommendation letter for a high school counselor, principal or teacher; submit a personal essay highlighting academic and extracurricular accomplishments and reflecting on the unique value of an honors education; and participate in an interview with Honors College Director Lamyaa Hassib.

Each student selected to the Honors College will receive a scholarship for tuition, as well as payment for textbooks and equipment required for their program of study. The Honors College offers students the opportunity to take advantage of small sizes and close interaction between professors and students; membership to the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, National Collegiate Honors Council and Northeast Regional Honors Council; participation in internships, research, service learning and conferences; several scholarship opportunities; and enhanced transfer success through numerous articulation agreements with four-year institutions.

The Foundation is still working to meet its goal of raising $350,000 to support the Honors College and its students. To donate, please visit the Honors College Sponsorship giving page. More information on the Honors College can be found at www.hvcc.edu/honors.
