Open House for New High School on Campus is April 21

April 19, 2021

Incoming high school freshmen and their families are invited to a virtual open house and information night to learn about the new high school that will be housed on the college’s campus starting this fall.

The high school, which will be operated in conjunction with Questar III BOCES, is open to incoming ninth graders from 46 school districts in Albany, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Schenectady, Schoharie and southern Saratoga counties. Approximately 70 students will be eligible to enter the programs each year.

The high school will allow students to take advantage of career-focused educational tracks including computer information systems, civil engineering technology, environmental science and protection and health science. Using the P-TECH and Early College High School models, these curriculum tracks will allow students to earn up to 63 college credits at no charge to families. Successful students following the P-TECH curriculum can complete an associate degree at no cost over the course of six years.

The virtual open house will be 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21. The information session is 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27. The application deadline for new students interested in attending the school this fall is April 28. Visit www.questar.org/ptech-echs/ for more information.

This is the first P-TECH and Smart Scholar Early College High School to be hosted on a community college campus in the Capital Region. The high school will be located in the newly renovated Lang Technical Building, one of the original five structures on the college’s Troy campus. Students will have access to dedicated academic resources as well as the full range of services the college has to offer.
