Community Outreach and Assistance Continues after Holiday Break

As the college returns from its spring holiday break, faculty, staff and students continue to step up in response to challenges presented by the COVID 19 outbreak.

Health Sciences Dean Deployed as Navy Nurse in NYC

Dean of Health Sciences Patricia Klimkewicz has been deployed as part of the COVID 19 response in New York City.

A registered nurse and a captain in the United States Navy Nurse Corps. Klimkewicz is serving at the Javits Convention Center, which was temporarily set up to treat COVID 19 patients in New York City.

Prior to becoming dean, she was a professor in the Nursing department for 19 years. She has previously been deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan and Landstuhl, Germany.

Student Senate Donates Class Gift to Support Students with Food Insecurity

The college’s Student Senate met virtually on Monday, April 6, and voted unanimously to create an $8,000 class gift that can be used immediately to make $50 food gift cards available to current student who are experiencing hunger and food insecurity. The senate also voted to add $1,000 from its current yearly budget to the figure and the Faculty Student Association, which oversees auxiliary services on campus, also added $1,000.

Students may request the $50 Hannaford gift cards by completing the Application for COVID-19 Food Pantry Support.

COVID 19 Emergency Fund Donations Reach $40,000

Ongoing donations to the college Foundation’s COVID 19 emergency fund have reached $40,000. The funds are being used to purchase technology for student use and for any additional emergency needs for current Hudson Valley Community College students.

Several of the most recent donations came from entities on campus, including the Non-Teaching Professionals Association as well as the Faculty Association, whose $3,000 gift pushed the fund to the $40,000 mark.
