College Welcomes 12,000 Students; Special Events Held Throughout Opening Week

What: Hudson Valley Community College kicks off the fall 2015 semester with the inaugural Welcome Week Experience including fun and free events throughout opening week, Monday, Aug. 31 – Friday Sept. 4, open to all students, faculty and staff.

Each day has a theme — Fun Day Monday; Art, Science and Technology Tuesday; Cultural, Spiritual, Service and Wellness Wednesday; Sports Challenge Thursday, and Wind-down Friday. The kickoff events include music, entertainment, giveaways, food and beverages, friendly competitions and a scavenger hunt that ends Sept. 11. Plus, student clubs will be recruiting new members throughout the week.

Some highlights are performances by TEN 27 jazz trio, Sensamaya (Latin jazz), the Lustre Kings (rockabilly), classical guitarist Paul Quigley, Theatre Club and Choir Club; Mindfulness Meditation; Coach's Free Throw Challenge and a Home run Derby Wiffle Ball competition with President Drew Matonak. Also on the "menu" are pancake breakfasts, lunches (sandwiches, pizza, BBQ chicken, hot dogs and hamburgers) and an ice cream social.
