“The professors make me feel as though I am living with a ‘large family’ while I am studying at Hudson Valley.”

Minling is a Fine Arts student at Hudson Valley, and there are three reasons why she would recommend the college to international students: fantastic professors; great student support services; and inexpensive tuition.

"Regarding the professors, they are very welcoming, conscientious and easy to contact if you have a question or concern. They truly care about their students. In fact, the professors, along with the other students, make me feel as though I am living with a 'large family' while I am studying at Hudson Valley Community College," she said.

Studying in English, when it is not your native language, can be challenging, Minling said. In addition to offering a number of English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, there is an ESL Tutor and a Language Lab, to help students improve their English skills, in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

"You can easily find tutors in the library when you need writing assistance or with a specific academic subject," she said.

Because the tuition is very affordable, she said, Hudson Valley is a great place for international students to begin their education in the United States, and then transfer to a four-year college or university.

Hudson Valley Community College has transfer agreements with many institutions, and since course credits from the college are highly transferable, transferring to a four-year college or university is very easy.

"Earning my associate degree at Hudson Valley Community College is the first step in my plan to earn a four-year degree and then obtain a great job," she said.
