Hudson Valley Community College Announces New Vice President for Administration & Executive Director of Capital District EOC

Hudson Valley Community College has appointed two new leaders who will help shape the future of the college. Michael Markou will serve as Executive Director of the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center (EOC), and alumnus Gerard Marino has been named Vice President for Administration. Both appointments were approved at the Board of Trustees’ December 16 meeting.

Markou currently serves as the Adult Education Program Manager at Capital Region BOCES and oversees a diverse portfolio of career and technical education programs. Prior to joining BOCES, Markou spent over 15 years at Bryant & Stratton College, where he held a range of leadership roles including Dean of Instruction and Dean of Student Services. As a campus leader, he also served as Title IX Coordinator and ADA/Grievance Officer, ensuring compliance and equitable access across student services.

Markou, who will start at the college January 26, holds a Master of Science in Organization Management from Russell Sage College and a B.S. in Secondary Education from SUNY Oneonta.

The Capital District EOC, a division of Hudson Valley Community College, is located in Troy and funded by the SUNY University Center for Academic and Workforce Development. The EOC delivers comprehensive, community-based academic and workforce development programs, and provides support services leading to enhanced employment opportunities, access to further education, and increased personal growth and development. operates 12 Educational Opportunity Centers throughout New York State.

Gerard Marino

Marino currently serves as Assistant Vice President and Controller of Finance and Administration at the University at Albany. He brings financial leadership, strategic planning and operational management skills with more than two decades of experience in the SUNY system. Marino has also held the title of University Budget Director and Administrative Services Director at UAlbany. Prior to UAlbany, he worked at SUNY System Administration, starting as an internal auditor before advancing to the position of Director of Business Services within the Office of the Provost.

In his new role at Hudson Valley, he will oversee a wide variety of operational and administrative departments, including Finance, Grants, Purchasing, Environmental Health and Safety, Human Resources, Institutional Services and Events, Instructional and Information Technology, Maintenance and Grounds Services, Physical Plant, Planning, Design & Construction and Public Safety.

Marino holds a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from Stony Brook University. He earned a B.S. in Business Administration from The College of Saint Rose and began his higher education journey at Hudson Valley, earning his Associate of Science in Business Administration. He will begin at the college February 1.
