Hudson Valley Announces Expansion of Highly Successful Student Retention, Graduation Support Program: ASAP
October 1, 2025
Expansion to Empower Students with Financial, Academic, & Personal Support to Boost Graduation Rates, Close Opportunity Gaps
Hudson Valley Community College leaders today announced the expansion of Advancing Success in Associate Pathways (ASAP). This expansion will mean that 272 students at Hudson Valley Community College will receive important resources to help them gain and maintain academic momentum so they can graduate on time.
“The expansion and growth of ASAP at Hudson Valley, and beyond, is extremely impactful,” said Hudson Valley Community College President Dr. Michael Brophy. “As students face financial and personal challenges, it is critical that we meet them with meaningful support. Launching and growing the ASAP program ensures that our students are provided with the assistance and resources needed to succeed and earn their degrees on time. We have seen much success throughout the program during our first year, for which we express our sincere appreciation to SUNY, Governor Hochul and state and local leaders for their support.”
SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. said, “SUNY is committed to the success of every student, and our expansion of the proven ASAP and ACE programs across our system ensures our students are on track to complete their degree on time and pursue their aspirations. I applaud Governor Hochul and state leaders for their continued support of SUNY, and I thank the Hudson Valley Community College administration, faculty, and staff for their unwavering commitment to student success.”
Jennifer Bashant, Ph.D., University Director of ASAP|ACE at SUNY System Administration, added, “The research on ASAP|ACE is very clear: students enrolled in the program attempt more credits, complete more credits, and are more likely to graduate on time than if they did not have the academic, financial, and personal supports of ASAP|ACE. At the heart of this program are the relationships formed and the trust that is cultivated, demonstrating to every student that they are not alone and that they always have someone in their corner to help them navigate challenges in the classroom and also in life.”
The Advancing Success in Associate Pathways (ASAP) program supports students pursuing associate degrees, while Advancing Completion through Engagement (ACE) supports baccalaureate students. Eligible students have access to a wide array of resources and support to help them overcome barriers that can prevent them from obtaining a degree. This includes funding to cover textbooks, groceries, transportation, and other costs of attendance, as well as comprehensive personalized advisement, academic support, and career development activities. See the SUNY ASAP|ACE webpage for more information.
In the 2025-26 State Budget, Governor Hochul and state leaders allocated $12 million for SUNY to expand this initiative, which will help Hudson Valley to support more students as they pursue a degree to help them unleash their full potential. The significant investment by Governor Hochul and state leaders will help grow ASAP|ACE enrollment statewide to an anticipated 7,000 students this year, on track to enrolling 10,000 students for Fall 2026.
Hudson Valley Community College initially launched the ASAP program in October 2024, along with a new Student Success Center to house the program.
