Tech Valley High School Early College Pathway Program grads

Four Tech Valley High School students have earned degrees in Individual Studies from Hudson Valley Community College this spring through the Early College Pathway Program.

Caileigh Nevins, Teddy Dubois, Regillio Amelo, and Hurley Williams-Ross will graduate from the dual-enrollment program, which allows students to complete an associate degree and a high school diploma at the same time through a combination of classes offered at Tech Valley High School and online/remotely through Hudson Valley. In some cases, students can graduate with a SUNY transcript that could qualify them to enter college as a sophomore or junior.

“Completing my HVCC associate degree while at TVHS will allow me to focus on the requirements of my major earlier in my collegiate life. I’m grateful for this opportunity,” said Nevins, of Menands, who will attend UMass Amherst in the fall.

“In college I’ll have more freedom to explore electives that interest me because I have already fulfilled most of my gen ed requirements,” said Dubois, of Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, who will attend Binghamton University.

“I’m grateful for all the dual enrollment opportunities at Tech Valley. They allowed me to pursue topics at a higher level while still fitting into my high school class schedule,” said Amelo, of Guilderland, who will study at the University at Albany.

“I learned a lot about time management during my associate pathway. I know the hard work that I did now will benefit me later on in my career,” said Williams-Ross, of East Greenbush, who will enroll in LIFT, Leadership in Flight Training.

The college offers several dual-enrollment pathways and partnership options for high school students, including in-person courses at 37 local school districts and online course options available to all high school students in fall, spring, and summer terms.

“By partnering with HVCC, we are expanding what's possible for our students. They’re earning college credits, gaining confidence, and building a foundation for lifelong success all while still in high school,” said Chief Academic Officer and Principal of Tech Valley High School Amy Hawrylchak. “Our students are proving that they can meet college-level expectations right now. This program empowers students to dream bigger.”

“At Hudson Valley Community College, we are consistently focused on creating greater access to higher education for all members of our community,” said Hudson Valley Community College’s Officer in Charge Louis Coplin. “Dual-enrollment partnerships like this one offer students the chance to get a head start on their academic and career goals and save time and money by earning an associate degree at the same time as a high school diploma. We’re proud of our dual-enrollment students for their hard work and accomplishments.”
