About the Name

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in August 2005, HVCC students traveled to Louisiana to assist in recovery efforts. When the students visited principals, teachers and students in the Ninth Ward—many of whom were forced to relocate to under‑served schools—they were inspired to support economically challenged students and disconnected populations seeking career success in our own community. Katrina’s Closet was created from that inspiration as a resource providing gently worn professional clothing for both women and men.
