The Physical Plant's mission is
to efficiently operate, maintain, and improve the physical plant facilities
in support of the programs of the college by providing a safe, clean, healthy,
and attractive environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
The Physical Plant Department which consists
of more than 100 employees, is responsible for the operation and maintenance
of 16 buildings on a 121 acre campus.
Under the direct
supervision of the Physical Plant director, it is organized into seven
units as follows: physical plant office; maintenance; energy; custodial; grounds; and institutional services and events. Positions in the
Physical Plant department are very diversified and include non-teaching
professionals, classified staff (competitive and non-competitive) and part-time.
The maintenance, custodial
and public safety departments work various shift schedules in an effort
to provide services to a campus that is utilized extensively by students
and the community.
A Message from
the Director of Physical Plant
As part of our continuing effort to better serve the needs of our growing
campus community, the Department of Physical Plant is providing this information
regarding the various categories of work requests typically received and
the manner in which priorities are assigned. It is my hope that such
information will give the users of our services a better sense of the work
we are prepared to handle and the processes in place to ensure efficient

Plant on any given day. It is vital for each of the campus community
to remember to recognize that, should he or she witness a condition which
is perceived to be an emergency, Physical Plant should be contacted by
telephone immediately. Should a person witness a condition which
he or she perceives to pose a safety hazard, the Campus Safety Officer
should be notified of the condition immediately. And should a person
perceive the need for maintenance, repair or enhancement of existing structures,
equipment or property, we have procedures in place to provide access to
The General Manager of the McDonough Complex has assumed responsibility
for the coordination of services for special events. Physical Plant
will receive requests from the General Manager's Office only. Should
a member of the campus community be hosting a special event which requires
set-up and/or breakdown, they should contact the General Manager's Office
and, if appropriate, submit a Special Events Work Request (provided by
General Manger's Office).
