Summer and Fall Registration Reminders; Commencement Update

Posted on May 11, 2020

Dear members of the college community,

I’d like to again share my sincere appreciation with our many students, faculty and staff. Your dedication to learning, teaching and continuing to serve the college during this most extraordinary time is absolutely remarkable and truly inspiring. I am beyond grateful for your collective dedication and perseverance toward achieving our shared academic goals and for your generosity and commitment to helping those in need throughout our greater community. I am so proud to be a part of the Hudson Valley family, and I wish you continued success as we conclude the semester.

End-of-Semester Support

Students, you have overcome so much this semester, and extra academic help may be crucial for your success as we approach the final days of the semester. Please check the college Learning Center's web page for resources to help you finish the spring semester strong. Information on college support services is also available in updates I’ve shared previously and on the Academic Support Services page of the college website.

Summer Sessions Start Soon

Please remember that summer registration is ongoing, and I encourage you once again to consider summer study. This is an excellent opportunity to catch up or get ahead, and the credits you will earn are transferable to most colleges and universities.

Hudson Valley is offering more than 450 online and remote courses this summer, including popular science courses and labs. You can choose from 12-week sessions beginning May 26, or six-week sessions beginning May 26 and July 6. Please visit the Summer Sessions webpage or contact your academic advisor to learn more.

Fall Registration

Registration is also underway for the fall semester right now, and you can be assured that we are prepared to deliver quality instruction and support services safely, no matter what. We plan to offer online and remote learning options, in-person classes, and hybrid (on campus/online) instructional models to help our students stay on track.

So talk with your academic advisors, and register now to secure your classes. Please don’t put your education on hold; tuition payments aren’t due until mid-August, and we will be here throughout the summer to discuss your plans or any concerns you may have ahead of the fall term.

Commencement Update

The college will host an online Commencement celebration on Saturday, June 6 at 7 p.m. While we are all extremely disappointed that an in-person ceremony is not permitted at this time, our virtual event will celebrate our students with a series of special guest speakers and performances that pay tribute to the Class of 2020. Please save the date and time, and more information will be shared with the college community in the days ahead.

Upon verification of academic completion in mid-June, diplomas, event programs and other commemorative items will be mailed to graduates at home. A list of our graduates will be featured in local papers on May 16, so keep an eye out on that date for this special tribute to the Class of 2020.

Final Thoughts

Finally, I’d like to thank you all again for your resilience and patience as we’ve worked to adapt to and overcome an unprecedented situation these last few months. Please continue to be safe and well.

President, Hudson Valley Community College
