New COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols

Posted June 7, 2021

Dear students, faculty and staff:

Please be aware of the following changes to Hudson Valley Community College’s COVID-19 safety procedures which are now in effect and reflect the latest CDC, New York State and SUNY guidance.

Health Screening Process

  • All individuals coming to campus are still required to complete the Health Screening form prior to their arrival on campus each day.
  • Campus health screening stations are no longer in operation; therefore, temperature checks and wristbands will not be required.

Mandatory Weekly COVID-19 Testing Policies

  • Fully vaccinated students and employees will be exempt from mandatory weekly COVID-19 testing upon the submission and approval of documentation showing completion of full vaccination.
    • Vaccine documentation may be uploaded to the Pooled Testing Exemption for Students & Employees webpage.
  • Weekly testing is still required for all unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals on campus, as well as any individual who has not submitted proof of full vaccination and received an exemption.
    • Those individuals may either participate in the college’s COVID-19 pooled surveillance testing program, or provide proof each week of a negative test from an outside testing site to the Pooled Testing Exemption for Students & Employees webpage.

Mask and Social Distancing Protocols
The college is following the CDC’s mask and social distancing guidance specifying that fully vaccinated individuals can resume indoor and outdoor activities without wearing a mask or staying six feet apart.

  • People who have shown proof of full vaccination are not required to wear masks or observe social distancing while on campus, though they may do so if they choose.
  • All unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals must continue to wear a mask and maintain six feet social distancing from others in both indoor and outdoor settings at all times while on campus.

Availability of Campus Offices and Services
All college offices and services remain open and available to assist students and visitors, both in person and virtually.

  • Appointments can be made with individual offices in advance, but are not required; walk-ins are welcome as well.
  • Those who are unable to come to campus or prefer not to do so may still complete their business online, over the phone, via Zoom, or through other remote channels.

Proposed Vaccination Requirements
As you may know, Governor Cuomo has announced a proposal that would require students to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before returning to SUNY campuses in the fall.

  • This proposal is subject to SUNY Board approval, as well as the FDA’s full approval of the vaccines for non-emergency use. Accordingly, student vaccination is not a requirement at this time. We will share any updates to SUNY or New York State guidance as it becomes available.

While it is not currently required for students or employees to be vaccinated, vaccination is strongly encouraged to protect the health and safety of our campus community.

Fall 2021 Plans and Procedures
The college continues to receive health and safety guidance from SUNY and New York State as we look ahead to the fall semester, and we will continue to communicate new information. We are pleased to offer a robust selection of in-person courses for the fall, as well as hybrid, online and remote options. Registration for these classes is open and ongoing; please visit the Fall Classes webpage to view available courses and learn more.
