Academic Senate

The Academic Senate is the representative governing body of the faculty, administration, staff and students of Hudson Valley Community College. It is a deliberative body where representatives from across campus meet to review, examine, formulate, discuss and resolve issues pertaining to the academic life of the college.

The Senate receives proposals, suggestions, and concerns from the campus community and from its committees, gives them due consideration, and forwards the recommendations to the President of the College for implementation or where appropriate for consideration by the Board of Trustees.

Seventy percent of the members of the Senate are full-time teaching faculty or department chairs elected by their constituents. Other elected senators include adjunct faculty, non-teaching professionals, classified staff and students.

The college's delegate to the Faculty Council of Community Colleges, the Registrar, Vice Presidents and one Dean serve ex-officio. The chairs of the Senate Standing Committees become ex-officio Senators for their term as chair.

The Senate meets monthly to receive and act on recommendations from its standing committees as well as to initiate, discuss, and act upon any other matters of academic concern. Its meetings are open to all.

Employees and students can participate with Senate business in the Academic Senate SharePoint site.

We are eager to discuss your ideas, address your concerns or problems and want to ensure that the Senate reflects the interests and concerns of every one at the college. Thank you for your interest.
