Distinguished Service Awards

Since 1984, Hudson Valley Community College has recognized the accomplishments of its alumni through the Distinguished Alumnus Award. The categories honor both alumni and non-alumni that have demonstrated themselves as distinguished because of their service to the college or the greater community.

The 2008 recipients were: Paula A. Stopera ’77, Michael J. Whalen ’73, Charles Touhey, William C. Wolff ’72, and James Barba. Read more about this event.

The 15th Annual U.W. Marx Inc. Golf Classic will be held July 20, 2009 at The Country Club of Troy. Proceeds from the annual event benefit the Foundation’s Annual Fund, which assists the college in addressing unmet needs and taking advantage of unexpected opportunities. In the past, golf proceeds have funded scholarships, technology enhancements, campus beautification and special programs for disabled students.

Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Affairs Named

Laurel ColasurdoLaurel Colasurdo of Brunswick, a fundraising, event planning and alumni affairs professional, has been named director of annual giving and alumni affairs at Hudson Valley Community College. She brings nine years of event planning, alumni affairs and higher education management experience.

Laurel will oversee the Foundation’s annual fund, develop and maintain a calendar of annual fund activities, oversee all fundraising events, plan and manage alumni recognition events and programs and work with the Alumni Association to build its volunteer base and organizational potential.

Previously, Laurel was the director of alumni relations and executive director of Russell Sage College alumni association. Prior to that, she worked for the Albany Medical Center Foundation, where she was the director of special projects. Read More

Heritage Society Inducts New Members

Five Individuals Name College in Estate Plans

The Hudson Valley Community College Foundation recently welcomed five new members to its Heritage Society, which recognizes individuals who have provided, or have made plans to provide, charitable gifts through bequests, trusts and other life income gifts. With these new inductions, the society now has 38 members.

Four alumni and one former college employee were welcomed to the society at a dinner held Tuesday, Oct. 28 at Franklin Plaza in Troy. They are Roger Champagne of Troy; Sam Fantroy ’64 of Albany; Robert Ralbovsky ’66, a native of Schenectady, who currently resides in Castle Rock, Colorado; Robert Turner ’67 of Monument, Colorado; and Gordon Zuckerman ’62 of Schenectady.
