Honey bees are responsible for pollinating up to one third of the fruits and vegetables we eat every day. Besides this most important role, honey bees live a fascinating social life. Honey bees and wild pollinators also are important to the health of the environment. Currently, honey bees and many other pollinators are under stress from a variety of sources. Loss of habitat, parasites, disease and pesticide exposure contribute to the decline in bee populations. Tom Della Rocco, Albany County executive director with the USDA Farm Service Agency, discusses the life of honey bees and the threats they face.

Hudson Valley Community College and SUNY Cobleskill have signed an agreement that will allow the SUNY four-year college to offer the complete coursework of its Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) on the Hudson Valley Community College campus, starting in the fall of 2017. More information about the new agreement can be found at www.cobleskill.edu/hvcc.

The SUNY Cobleskill B.B.A. is designed for students who are completing or have already completed Hudson Valley’s A.A.S. degree in Business Administration, and it offers seamless transfer into the Cobleskill program. The agreement is similar to partnerships the college already has with Cobleskill for its B.S. in Early Childhood Studies, as well as SUNY Plattsburgh for its B.S. in Criminal Justice and Cazenovia College for its B.S. in Human Services. The agreements, between Hudson Valley and four-year institutions, are a way for Capital Region students to achieve a bachelor’s degree in a specialized field without leaving the area. These programs are coordinated through the college’s Center for Advanced Studies, whose goal is to build partnerships with four-year institutions that allow students to continue their education in the Capital Region.

The Transfer Advisor Visit offers students who are more decisive about transferring to a particular college or university an opportunity to meet with representatives. Students will be able to meet individually with the transfer college representative, by appointment only.

Scheduled appointments are generally 15-30 minutes, and students receive specific advisement about admission criteria, general education requirements, course recommendations and transfer of credit. Students are advised to bring an unofficial copy of their Hudson Valley Community College transcript so that the four-year college representative can provide a transfer evaluation of courses taken. Students can access and print a copy of their transcript from Hudson Valley WIReD.

Appointments are required. For more information, or to schedule an appointment with a transfer college representative, contact the Center for Careers and Transfer at (518) 629-7326.
