Experiential Education
SUNY Works is an initiative of the State University of New York system to combine classroom learning with relevant real world experience. Hudson Valley Community College prepares students in all disciplines for successful careers and, with funding from this program, can boost your opportunities for learning outside of the classroom.
Service Learning
A form of student volunteerism, service learning combines academics with community involvement. Through Hudson Valley's Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement, students can explore activities ranging from tutoring underprivileged children to working as a docent in a museum to assisting the elderly with grocery shopping, helping them make meaningful connections between their studies and the real world.
Internships
Often paid and carrying academic credit, internships are work experiences related to a students' major or career goal. An intern works in a professional setting under the supervision of practicing professionals. Internships are offered for the following programs:

- Computer Information Systems A.A.S.
- Early Childhood
- Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic A.A.S.
- Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic Certificate

Clinicals
Clinical experiences typically take place in a medical or health-related setting where students get to apply theory to a patient environment. Many of Hudson Valley's programs in the School of Health Science require clinicals for credit in alternating academic terms called "clinical rotations," like:
