In celebration of Black History Month, this award-winning film by Danielle Beverly tells a quiet, unfolding story that provides a window into the underlying dynamics of race relations in so many American communities. An Athens, Georgia college fraternity that traditionally flies the Confederate flag, moves to a historically black neighborhood and establishes a presence by staging an antebellum-style parade. What starts as a neighborhood struggle over southern cultural legacies, becomes a physical and emotional space for healing, possibilities, hope and grounds for understanding.

OUR STORIES: EDU-DRAMA
The Edu-Drama uses visual images, representations and expressions to tell a story. It is a unique teaching and learning methodology that enhances and inspires understanding of the complexity of societal issues and educates audiences by promoting critical thought in more meaningful techniques in the 21st century.

Our Edu-Dramas will be presented in a panel discussion format by women from various walks of life. Sharing our unique stories is a way of bringing women together through visual imagery, storytelling and music. Through our collective consciousness, we will present positive images and messages for the future generation of women as they navigate life’s challenges. During the presentation and the finale, we will pass torches to the present and next generation as a symbolic representation of our tribulations, trials and triumphs.

Edu-Drama Producer/Director: Tamu Chambers, Professor of History, Philosophy and Social Sciences, Hudson Valley Community College.

This award-winning film by Lisa Ades tracks the country’s oldest beauty contest—from its inception in 1921 as a local seaside pageant to its heyday as one of the country’s most popular events. Celebrating Women’s History Month, “Miss
America” paints a vivid picture of an institution that reveals much about a changing nation. And, while the pageant is about commercialism and sexual politics, big business and small towns, beyond it lies a human story – at once moving, inspiring, infuriating, funny and poignant.

It features rare archival footage and intimate interviews with distinguished commentators and former contestants.

Therapeutic Sound w/ Amy McTear
Be transported by the psycho-acoustic sounds of the symphonic gong, crystal singing bowls, Native American flute, monochord, chimes and other exotic world instruments. Palpable sound waves move over the skin, nourishing the nervous system with therapeutic sound. Lie down or sit comfortably, with the option to gently vocalize or move in response to the sound waves.

Labyrinth Walking is used worldwide as a way to quiet the mind, recover a balance in life, and encourage meditation, insight, self-reflection, stress reduction, innovation and celebration. A non-denominational, cross-cultural blueprint for well-being, open to all, integrating the body, mind and spirit.
