In the Writing and Research Center, our goal is to help students through every step of the writing process. Writing specialists provide support focused on helping students build confidence and independence in completing their writing assignments.
Our services include the following:
We will discuss your assignment and the instructor’s expectations.
We can help you find a general subject, narrow the subject to a manageable portion, compose a tentative thesis and find appropriate sources.
- First Draft
We can provide assistance in developing an overall outline and choosing writing strategies that match that outline.
Feedback includes reading your entire paper, asking questions and offering constructive criticism.
During the revision we will review key elements such as point of view, proper language, introduction, transitions, conclusion, etc.
- Final Review
Final review includes showing you how to use spell check and grammar check and teaching you how to correct errors.
- Citing Sources
We can offering guidance on paraphrasing, summarizing, using quotations and emphasizing the importance of both in-text citations and end-of-paper citations to avoid plagiarism.
- Conducting workshops on various topics related to writing.
The Writing and Research Center, located on the second floor of the Marvin Library Learning Commons, operates during the hours the building is open.
