"Echoes from the fall of Afghanistan" - Imran Khan

HVCC welcomes Imran Khan to campus as part of its Voices: A Library Lecture Series.

Imran will share the powerful and often overlooked stories of Afghans who supported the U.S. Army during the war in Afghanistan—serving as interpreters, base workers and even special forces alongside American troops. These individuals risked their lives with hopes of a safer, better future. However, many now face painful separation from their families due to the rushed and chaotic evacuation, compounded by ongoing bureaucratic obstacles. Imran will explore their sacrifices, the enduring challenges they face and the urgent need for policies that honor their loyalty and reunite them with their loved ones.

Imran is a recent graduate of HVCC (Class of 2024), where he earned academic honors and was named to the Spring 2024 President’s List. A former interpreter for the U.S. Army in Afghanistan, his experience continues to shape his worldview and fuels his advocacy for those left behind. Now living in the Capital Region, Imran has launched a mobile tailoring business and runs an online clothing store at Khanscloset.com. This presentation will also be livestreamed for those not able to attend in-person.

In addition to his entrepreneurial work, Imran is an aspiring writer. He is developing stories that weave together his lived experiences with fiction, exploring themes such as displacement, dignity and survival.

This free, public event is co-sponsored by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Student Activities; Veterans Resource and Outreach Center (VET-ROC) and the Alumni Association.
