Foundation Leadership Donors Reception and Awards Ceremony

The Hudson Valley Community College Foundation is holding its annual Leadership Donors Reception and Awards Ceremony and will be honoring Ken Grey, senior vice president at Marshall & Sterling Insurance, with the Outstanding Philanthropist Award on Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 5:30 – 8 p.m. The event will take place in TEC-SMART at HVCC North, located at 345 Hermes Road, Malta.

The Foundation's Outstanding Philanthropist Award is presented to an individual, couple, family foundation or corporation which has shown exemplary leadership through their charitable giving, while encouraging others to emulate their philanthropy and support of the Foundation’s initiatives.

About Ken Grey - Sr. Vice President, Marshall & Sterling Insurance

Ken Grey is an adjunct faculty member in Hudson Valley Community College’s Business Administration department and serves on the Foundation Board. He has worked for Marshall & Sterling Insurance since 1990, specializing in not-for-profits; healthcare; professional liability; educational institutions; public entities; and manufacturers. Prior to joining Marshall & Sterling, he served as the upstate New York marketing manager for Hartford Insurance from 1985 to 1990, and worked in underwriting, marketing and home office capacities for St. Paul Insurance from 1978 to 1985.

Ken earned his B.A. in Political Science from Allegheny College in 1978 and attended night classes at Cleveland State, Old Dominion University, and the University of Minnesota, completing his MBA at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in 1988. He also earned designations as a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and as one of the first 150 designated Certified Risk Managers (CRM) in the United States.

Ken is involved deeply in community and national not-for-profit organizations, having served as volunteer and board member for United Way; Rotary board; Capital Campaign for Saratoga YMCA; St. Clements School Board; Sustainable Saratoga; and coached for multiple youth sports organizations. He is an emeritus board member for the National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS), serving in multiple capacities on the board since 2002, including as treasurer, vice chair, co-chair of the merger team, and chair of governance.

As active volunteers and advocates for the brain tumor community, Ken and his wife Cherie founded “Team Billy” and have held the Team Billy Ride and Walk for Research in Saratoga Springs for more than 20 years, funding more than $3 million in research grants under the Billy Grey Chair of Research; see www.teambilly.org. Ken also continues to serve as chairperson for the Complete Streets Committee in Saratoga Springs, where he and Cherie have resided since 1986. Ken was recognized by News10 ABC’s “50 Over 50” as an individual over the age of 50 who is making a difference and impact in the Capital Region.
