Art, Film, Music and Lectures

Fall 2009 Cultural Affairs Brochure CoverHighlights of this fall’s Cultural Affairs Program are the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company and the Arm-of-the-Sea Theater. The latter returns to campus with its life-size masks and puppets to present “Mutual Strangers: Henry Hudson and The River That Discovered Him” just in time for the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial.

The fall season culminates on World AIDS Day (Dec. 1) when the college welcomes Cleve Jones, activist and founder of the AIDS Memorial Quilt. His evening talk will be preceded by a slide show of photographs by Dona Ann McAdams accompanied by Brian Melick on Udu drum.

In the Teaching Gallery, New York City artist Jennifer Dalton will present “Is It Just Me?,” an exhibition that  surveys her sculptures and installations of the last 10 years, followed by a group exhibition featuring members of the college’s Fine Arts Department faculty.

Voices: A Library Lecture Series, themed “Journey of Conviction,” is generously interspersed throughout the schedule and covers a variety of topics: Afghanistan, the International Criminal Court, poems about the Hudson Valley and auto racing in New York State.
