The Advanced Manufacturing Technology degree program provides you with the skills for a career centered on precision metal, composite and plastic fabrication. Using computers and other advanced manufacturing technology, you will gain a solid foundation to start you career in precision manufacturing.

This academic program is primarily designed for those who wish to enter the workforce immediately following graduation.

Program Highlights

  • The program fulfills the educational requirements for a four-year apprenticeship program for machinist, CNC machinist, moldmaker, toolmaker and tool and die maker offered through the New York State and Federal Departments of Labor. If a company wishes to enter an employee into an apprenticeship program, they should contact the NYS Department of Labor.
  • During the second year of study, students work collaboratively on a capstone project, which showcases the skills they have learned.
  • The precision manufacturing program benefits from a close relationship with regional manufacturers as well as with HAAS Manufacturing, which outfits several components in the manufacturing lab.

  • The college has shovel-ready plans to build the Gene F. Haas Center for Advanced Manufacturing Skills (CAMS) – a new $14.5 million, 37,000 square foot building. When constructed, the center will allow the college to double enrollment in the Advanced Manufacturing Technology degree program and meet an urgent workforce demand for skilled employees in the region.

Evening Program can be completed by attending entirely in the evening. This program is also offered in a part-time evening format.

Career and Transfer Opportunities

The placement rate prior to graduating approaches 95 percent, while a number of companies in the region provide scholarships covering books, tuition and related fees as well as part-time jobs for students in the program that lead to full-time employment upon graduation.

Recent employers have included: Broadalbin Manufacturing; General Electric Corporation; Integrated Fab Technologies; Kintz Plastics; Mace Molding; Niekamp Tool Co.; Package One; Saturn Industries; Siemens; Simmons Machine and Tool; Solid Sealing Technology; Troy Tool; US Dept. of Defense; Watervliet Arsenal; Zach's Machine Shop; and Zak Incorporated.

Salaries vary based on position and degree attainment. Here is the median salary taken from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (as of 2015): Computer-Controlled Machine Tool Operator, $37,030; Lathe and Turning Machine Tool Operators, $38,080.

Graduates of the program should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate technical proficiency in CNC Programing.
  2. Demonstrate CNC machining proficiency by their graduation date.
