Pre-order your cap and gown (regalia): Friday, March 23 - Thursday, April 19
To receive your tickets, cap and gown: Pre-ordered regalia should be picked up during the times noted above. Complete and sign this form. Bring it with your valid student ID, driver's license or other valid photo ID to the Campus Center, Room 204 on one of the distribution dates.

Friday, May 11
Student Honors and Awards Ceremony: 6 - 8 p.m. in the McDonough Sports Complex
This ceremony recognizes the college's highest achieving graduates who have earned a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.5 or above, as well as special award recipients. Invited students, their guests, and faculty and staff may attend. Students must wear their academic honors regalia and check in by 5 p.m. at the Conway Ice Rink in the McDonough Sports Complex. Guests should arrive prior to the start of the 6 p.m. ceremony and be seated in the field house. There is no limit to the number of guests who may attend. Saturday, May 12
64th Annual Commencement Ceremony in the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium
Doors open to family/guests at 7:30 a.m.
Graduates assemble in the McDonough Sports Complex field house at 7:30 a.m.
Procession begins at 8:45 a.m.
Post-Commencement Celebration: 11:30 a.m. in the Student Pavilion
Graduates and guests are invited to attend a reception immediately following the Commencement ceremony.
The college's Commencement ceremony will highlight the diverse and remarkable achievements of approximately 2,000 Hudson Valley Community College graduates.
Seating will be organized by division (Business, Engineering and Industrial Technologies, Health Sciences, Liberal Arts and Sciences). Each graduate will be individually announced and congratulated by President Drew Matonak. Graduates must then return to their seats for the duration of the ceremony.
Tickets will be issued as follows:
- Each graduate will receive five tickets.
- three green tickets
- two white tickets
- Both green and white tickets allow access to the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.
- In the event of inclement weather and the ceremony is moved to the McDonough Sports Complex:
- green tickets allow access to the main ceremony area.
- white tickets allow access to the overflow viewing areas, where the ceremony is shown on video.
- Degree candidates requiring seating for individuals with disabilities must request tickets on cap/gown and ticket distribution days.
Degree candidates must wear a cap and gown in order to participate in the Commencement ceremony. Appropriate attire under the cap and gown is expected. (Jeans, shorts and sneakers are not considered appropriate.) Flat shoes are recommended for walking on the ball field.
Live Video Stream
Degree candidates will receive their diploma covers and commencement programs at the ceremony. Official diplomas will be mailed approximately four to six weeks after Commencement. Graduates who prefer to pick up their diplomas in person should call the Registrar's Office at (518) 629-4574 or email their request to email@example.com from their Hudson Valley student email account.
The Student Honors and Awards Ceremony as well as Commencement are formal ceremonies. Inappropriate behavior of any kind will not be tolerated. Forms of distraction, such as noisemakers, beach balls, liquid string, bubbles and inappropriately altered regalia are not permitted. Cell phones must be silenced during the ceremony. Graduates are not permitted to take selfies onstage.
The college has contracted with Island Photography to take photos of graduating students and award recipients at the Student Honors and Awards and Commencement ceremonies.
Registering with Island Photography provides the information needed to deliver photo proofs within three to five days after graduation. You also may provide an email address of up to six friends and family members to receive photos. Pictures may be ordered online, by phone or mail. Refreshments and Items for Sale
Refreshments are provided at no cost until 8:45 a.m. at the right field pavilion of the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. Food and beverages will also be sold at stadium concession areas. Flowers and college bookstore commemorative items will also be sold on site.
Senior Gift Campaign
The Hudson Valley Community College Foundation invites graduates to contribute to the annual campaign supporting scholarships, academic program enrichments and campus improvements. Graduates and their family and friends are asked to consider a gift of $20.18 to the Senior Gift Campaign.
Public Safety/Health Services
College Public Safety officers, local law enforcement, nurses and an ambulance with medical staff will be on site in case of an emergency. If such an event occurs, please immediately locate an usher or call Public Safety at (518) 629-7210.
Directions, Campus Map and Parking
Parking in the garage and all lots is available without permit. It is recommended that guests arrive no later than 8:15 a.m. for Commencement to allow time for walking to the stadium and locating seats. [Campus Map and Directions]
Inclement Weather Policy
In the event of inclement weather, the Commencement ceremony will take place indoors in the McDonough Sports Complex field house with the following logistical changes:
- Tickets: Green tickets allow access to the main ceremony area. White tickets allow access to the overflow viewing areas, where the ceremony is shown on video.
- Overflow viewing areas: A live stream of the ceremony will be available in overflow viewing areas. Seating is limited and will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open at 7:30 a.m.
- Reception: The Post-Commencement Celebration for graduates and guests will take place in the Conway Ice Rink, located in the McDonough Sports Complex.
Individuals with Disabilities
Joseph L. Bruno Stadium and the McDonough Sports Complex are accessible to individuals with disabilities. Individuals with special needs, including the need for an interpreter, should contact the Center for Access and Assistive Technology, at (518) 629-7154 or TDD (518) 629-7596 at least two weeks in advance. Degree candidates requiring seating for individuals with disabilities must request tickets on cap/gown and ticket distribution days.
