FOR RELEASE: Immediate, Wednesday, December 5, 2001

TROY, NY – Students from Hudson Valley Community College's Introduction to Engineering Design class will race vehicles that they designed and built.

WHEN: 6:30 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 5, 2001.

WHERE: Cogan Hall, Room 153 (Senior Automotive Lab), Hudson Valley Community College, 80 Vandenburgh Avenue, Troy NY.

WHAT: The Introduction to Engineering Design students will race their vehicles on a cement, figure-eight-shaped track while wearing helmets, safety glasses, elbow pads and gloves.

WHY: The vehicles, which can measure no larger than four-feet long by three-feet wide, must incorporate an elastic material for energy and motion. They cannot harbor any stored energy or springs, and the drivers cannot use their feet or legs to power the vehicles. Each team will cover the course twice, and the team with the lowest elapsed time will be considered the winner.
