FOR RELEASE: Immediate, Wednesday, April 27, 2016

Hudson Valley Community College has partnered with Mazzone Hospitality for food service and catering on campus. The company’s PRIME Business Dining division will begin operations at the region’s second-largest undergraduate college next month.

“We’re very excited to partner with Mazzone Hospitality, an industry leader with an outstanding reputation for quality and customer service,” said President Drew Matonak. “Our students, faculty and staff are looking forward to new food options and ideas that Mazzone will bring to campus, and we’re especially proud to work with a company that has deep local roots and a commitment to our community.”

“This partnership will bring two Capital Region institutions together and offer quality food and exceptional service in a college setting, something new to Mazzone Hospitality,” said Angelo Mazzone, owner of Mazzone Hospitality. “We’re thrilled to announce this partnership and look forward to introducing faculty and staff to exciting new options.”

PRIME Business Dining operates food service at the Empire State Plaza, Excelsior College, GlobalFoundries, Golub Corporation and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, among others. Other Mazzone properties include restaurants: Angelo’s 677 Prime in Albany; Angelo’s Tavolo in Scotia; Angelo’s Bar and Grill in Clifton Park; Apertivo Bistro in Schenectady; Fish at 30 Lake in Saratoga; Prime at Saratoga National in Saratoga; and Tala Bistro in Latham; as well as extensive on-site and off-site catering operations around the region.

The college has a main food court and coffee bar in the Siek Campus Center as well as café stations in the Marvin Library Learning Commons, Science Center and Williams Hall. Mazzone will take over all of these facilities in May, with plans to renovate throughout the summer and launch full service with the start of the fall semester.

“While staple items will be introduced, such as an Angelo’s Kitchen Italian Station in the Siek Campus Center and Foundry smoked meats at Williams Hall, we hope to tailor and grow our operations to best fit the college’s needs throughout the initial few years,” said Tim Vennard, Vice President PRIME Business Dining.

The board of the college’s Faculty Student Association (FSA), which oversees food service on campus, approved the selection of Mazzone earlier this month following a request for proposals in February. Chartwells Dining Services has been the food and catering provider at Hudson Valley since 2004.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 80 associate degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of nearly 12,000 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. Hudson Valley has more than 75,000 alumni.
