TROY: On Feb. 7 at 3 p.m., Hudson Valley Community College President John L. Buono and Vice President of Services Willie A. Hammett will host a special recognition ceremony for thirty-six Hudson Valley Community College students who have been included in the 2000 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. The ceremony will take place in the Bulmer Technology Center Auditorium on the Hudson Valley Community College campus, 80 Vandenburgh Ave., Troy.
The students were nominated by faculty, department chairs or advisors, based on their outstanding academic achievement and outstanding students being honored include the following:
Nicholas Viscio of Altamont: Viscio has a patent on an airplane part and with his father has created a motorized para-plane that is featured in the latest James Bond film.
Robert Baldwin of Eagle Bridge: Mr. Baldwin, a carpenter by trade who is studying Chemical Dependency Counseling, taught carpentry skills to students and community members to help Hurrican Hugo victims rebuild their homes. Baldwin volunteers at Unity House and 12-step programs.
Jodi Rajchel of Clifton Park: Ms. Rajchel, a President's List student in Physical Education, earned her Master's Degree in music education and taught for four years before switching her focus. Rajchel volunteers her time to teach fitness classes to individuals with Down's Syndrome.
Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions.
