Hudson Valley Community College officials and other dignitaries today celebrated the opening of the $6.2 million, 55,000-square-foot Guenther Enrollment Services Center. The renovation of Guenther Hall into the Guenther Enrollment Services Center required gutting a 1950s era administration building and turning it into a contemporary student-focused service center.

"The premise behind turning Guenther Hall into the Guenther Enrollment Services Center is simple and important," said John Buono, president of Hudson Valley. "We wanted to better serve Hudson Valley Community College's students by providing them with ‘one-stop shopping' for the enrollment process."

In the past, Hudson Valley's students had to travel as far as the Hy Rosenblum Administration building, which was located on the corner of Morrison and Vandenburgh avenues, to complete certain enrollment steps.

"The Guenther Enrollment Services Center represents Hudson Valley Community College's ongoing commitment to providing quality services to its students," said Willie Hammett, vice president of student services at Hudson Valley. "When we saw that the enrollment process was difficult for students because of the traveling involved, we asked ourselves, ‘Why not create a comprehensive enrollment management center?'"

"This building gives students one place to complete the entire enrollment process," Buono said.

Troy's U.W. Marx served as construction manager, and the uniquely curved Guenther Enrollment Services Center sports open space and the most modern technology. Designed by Architecture +, also of Troy, the building's distinguished roof and main entrance demand attention. Once inside the lobby, visitors are greeted by natural light, which enters through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the new quad.

Strategically located at the center of Hudson Valley Community College, near the campus center, the Guenther Enrollment Service Center is a hub for incoming students. To accommodate the "one-stop shopping" philosophy, the following resources are located in the building: President's office; Admissions office; Cashier's office; Communications and Marketing office; Community and Professional Education office; Continuing Education office; Deputy to the President's office; Enrollment counselors; Financial Aid office; Instructional Support Services office; Vice President for Academic Affairs office; Vice President for Administration office; Registrar's office; and Vice President for Student Services office.

Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 50 degree and certification programs in four academic divisions: Liberal Arts and Sciences; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Business; as well as programs run through the Educational Opportunity Center offering certification programs in workforce and academic preparation. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 9,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining.
