Hudson Valley Community College Student Smassanow of Ballston Spa Elected to College Board of Trustees

Dave Smassanow of Ballston Spa recently was elected to be the student representative for the Hudson Valley Community College Board of Trustees.
Smassanow is a student in the School of Business at the college. He was elected as a freshman senator in the Student Senate in the fall of 2000, then elected senior senator in spring 2001. Through student senate, says Smassanow, "I learned a lot more about what is involved in government."
Smassanow is excited about being a part of the main governing board for the college. His career goals include pursing the business of music. Smassanow plays in a band called Nine Day Fall (www.9dayfall.com). He hopes to transfer to a four-year college to complete his business studies after graduating from Hudson Valley.
Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 9,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training.
