Ann Evancoe of Averill Park given President's Award for Excellence in Teaching at Hudson Valley

Ann Evancoe of Averill Park was recently honored with the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching at Hudson Valley Community College.

Evancoe is an assistant professor of biology at the college and also oversees the Biology Study Center as an educational specialist.

During her six years at the college, Evancoe has initiated a variety of outreach projects with local elementary and middle schools. In 1999, she co-authored a science curriculum with a teacher from Turnpike Elementary School in Lansingburgh that integrated, biology, mystery and crime-solving. Evancoe also has run the annual, grant-funded "Biology Career Seminar Day," which introduces science careers to local high school students.

"Ann has a real dedication to teaching science and to the students of Hudson Valley Community College," said college President John Buono.

Evancoe has a bachelor's degree in Biology from Russell Sage College. She received a master's degree in Science Teaching from the University at Albany.
