FOR RELEASE: Immediate, Thursday, August 23, 2001

Hudson Valley Community College proudly presents ulu on Thursday, September 6 at noon.  The free concert will take place in the Siek Campus Center from noon to 1:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

ulu's self-titled debut album was released in 1998. It has been heard by millions and received widespread exposure on MTV's "The Real World" and "Road Rules" as well as TNT's "NBA Basketball Playoffs."

Electric, eclectic and occasionally experimental, these New York City groovists have been fine-tuning their unique approach to rump-shaking grooves for the past three years. In their young history, ulu has shared the stage with such musical heavyweights as: John Scofield, The Mickey Hart Band, De La Soul. ulu was the only instrumental band to appear at Woodstock ‘99.  Their distinctive chemistry invigorates audiences into late nights of intoxicating frolic on the dance floor.

Heralded by MTV (\"ulu is fast becoming New York\'s favorite funk ensemble\"), applauded by the Chicago Reader (\"this NewYork based quartet revitalizes the idea of a modern jamband - a term so frequently misapplied that it has become an insult - by actually knowing how to jam and better yet how to say something with its muralistic music\") and praised by Atlanta\'s Creative Loafing (\"ulu\'s instrumental prowess is exemplary and they know how to hold down a solid funky backbeat\"), this is the band's third national tour.

Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences.
