Albany Student Nana Akuoko Honored by Hudson Valley Community College

Nana Akuoko of Albany, a 2009 graduate of Hudson Valley Community College's Biotechnology program, was honored by the college with a departmental award.
Akuoko was honored for Excellence in Molecular DNA Techniques, which is given to an outstanding graduate of the Biotechnology program. Akuoko, a native of Ghana, will attend SUNY Buffalo in the fall as a biomedical major. He plans to attend medical school and become a cardiologist. In addition to inclusion on the President\'s and Dean\'s list, Akuoko was an Academic All Region III Athlete for 2007-2008 as a member of the Viking\'s soccer team.
Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 70 associate's degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and also sponsors an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 12,000 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. Hudson Valley has more than 60,000 alumni.
