On Thursday, May 3, head coach Vince Medici and his Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team will raise money for Lauren Nicoll and her family. Lauren, 11 months old, has been diagnosed with brain cancer. The Vikings will host a free throw shooting contest from 6 to 9 p.m. on May 3, at Hudson Valley's McDonough Sports Complex, with all proceeds going to the Lauren's family. Lauren's father, Gary, is an area basketball official.

The contest is open to all ages, with the competition being broken into age groups. Prizes will be awarded to the top three shooters in each category (male and female). The top prize is free tuition to an area basketball camp.

Registration is $5. Hudson Valley's basketball players, who posted a 22-7 record in 2000-01, will run the event, and items will be raffled off.
