Gansevoort Student Heather Nygard Honored by Hudson Valley Community College \"Photo

Heather Nygard of Gansevoort, a 2007 graduate of Hudson Valley Community College’s Dental Hygiene program, was recently honored by the college.

Nygard received the Hy Rosenblum Special Consideration Award, which is given to an outstanding member of the Class of 2007 who combines academic excellence with community service.

She also received the Colgate Student Total Achievement Recognition Award, which is given to an outstanding student in the Dental Hygiene program. A high honor student during her two years at Hudson Valley, she was an active member of the Student American Dental Hygienists Association and Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society for students at two-year colleges.

She served as an academic peer tutor and also served as a mentor for the freshman Dental Hygiene class.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 70 associate’s degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and also sponsors an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 12,000 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. Hudson Valley has more than 60,000 alumni.
