All 36 seniors in Hudson Valley Community College’s Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technical Services program have passed the Riello Certification exam, which certifies that students can install and maintain Riello oil burners, an industry leader in residential and commercial oil burners.

Students at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, N.Y., have taken the exam for the last 15 years but this is the first time every student passed, with several students earning perfect scores.

Tim Smith, assistant professor in the college’s Building Systems Technology Department, praised the students, the faculty and a new Riello technical trainer, Joseph Sacco, who helped students with the Riello training.

“I am very proud of not only the technical expertise that our students have shown, but their dedication and professionalism. The Riello representative told me how impressed he was by our students’ knowledge and attitude,” Smith said.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 70 degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and workforce and academic preparation programs offered through the Educational Opportunity Center. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 12,000 students, and it is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining.
