The Hudson Valley Community College Foundation has created an endowment to benefit the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center to ensure the center continues to have the resources it needs to enhance the programs and services it provides to economically disadvantaged and educationally under-prepared men and women in the region.

The creation of the endowment coincides with the EOC’s 40th anniversary, which will be celebrated with “Glitter and Gemstones: A Gala Event,” on Friday, Sept. 29. Sponsorships for the event range from $100 to $10,000.

Sponsored by Hudson Valley Community College, the EOC has offered tuition-free academic and workforce development opportunities to residents of the Capital Region since 1966. Through its Troy and Albany offices, the EOC offers a wide variety of vocational programs in cosmetology, building trades, culinary arts, nursing assistant, welding and other business and office technology programs.

The EOC also offers a comprehensive array of academic programs ranging from adult basic education through college preparation, including GED preparation and English as a Second Language programs.

“Since 1966, the EOC has awarded certificates to more than 22,000 graduates and provided individuals with the skills necessary to gain employment, succeed on the job, and develop confidence in their own potential,” said Dr. Lucille Marion, executive director of the EOC and vice president at the college.

The Sept. 29 gala will be held at Wolferts Roost Country Club in Albany. The event will begin with cocktails and silent auction at 6 p.m., with dinner to follow at 7 p.m. Tickets are $70 per person or $520 for a table of eight.

The sponsorship levels are as follows: Jade: $100; Coral: $250; Sapphire: $2,500; Ruby: $5,000; Diamond: $10,000. Some pledges can be made over a five-year period. For more information about sponsorships or the event, contact the Foundation at (518) 629-8012.

“Hudson Valley Community College is proud of its longstanding relationship with the EOC, and the Foundation is pleased to have the opportunity to partner with the EOC and extend our philanthropic mission to such a worthy organization,” said Foundation President Sarah M. Boggess, who also serves as the college’s vice president for institutional advancement.

The Foundation is a not-for-profit charitable corporation formed in 1983 to philanthropically support the college's mission. Gifts to the Foundation from alumni, corporations and friends are used to enhance programs, facilities and scholarship opportunities at the college.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 60 degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and workforce and academic preparation programs offered through the Educational Opportunity Center. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 12,000 students, and it is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining. Hudson Valley has more than 60,000 alumni.
